The Wilton House is first and foremost a large English country home of a wealthy family in Wilton(near Salisbury in Wiltshire.) It belongs to the Earl of Pembroke and has for 460 years. This building is extremely welcoming for the reason that it serves as a home for not only the family, but for workers of the estate. The Wilton House is on the site of a twelfth century Benedictine abbey, that was originally a ninth century nunnery. Many visitors visit this site to see the house along with the 21 acres of gardens and parkland.
A devastating fire damaged the inside of the Wilton House which demanded for a renovation. John Webb completed the damaged part of the house, and used the popular Palladian style to finish it. Double and single cube rooms were built which were named the grandest rooms in England in the seventeenth century. The Wilton estate today is only one-third the size it was in the 1870's.
